Well, it is pretty pointy...but yeah, it's pretty much the sword.
That and he's totally willing to pick up a gun in Smash Bros.

Honestly, I thought it was on-topic...at least a subform of the topic.
I do keep hearing about rumors of a Shadow 2 every now and then. Doubt any of them are true but they haven't announced a new Sonic game in a while and you have to admit it's rather odd considering the hectic pace they're usually made at.

Yes, yes. Very true. I wonder why they haven't annouced any new Sonic games in a while...I also do keep hearing about a Shadow the hedgehog 2 every now and then, but later, the rumor ends up not being true and the person who made it ends up in trouble and the rumor and the event just fades away...

I think it would be pretty cool if Tails got his own 3D game similar the the Shadow game. Before you go all "That's out of character", hear me out. Ever since Heroes, Tails has played a minor role in the series. Think about it. He started off as the sidekick, as a character who was practically vital to the series, and ever since the early 2000s, his role has spiraled downwards for no reason whatsoever. SO eventually he get sick of it, and you end up controlling him where you get to fight the other Sonic characters! Finally, a post-Dreamcast 3D Sonic game that Tails isn't ridiculously underplayed!  |

Well, there's also the obvious choice of a game made entirely out of Tails kicking ass and taking names in his plane's mech form (Or maybe even allow you to switch and stuff...like in the uncompleted Starfox 2 for the SNES...though that would destroy the platform element if you could just fly over everything...)
Isn't it strange that even Tails is less of a wuss than Sonic about gun-having and filling things full of bullets, though? Sure he's never had a handgun, but installing a steel-shredding minigun on your airplane is more than enough.

Not only did Sonic wield a sword, but at the end of the game, he has some pretty interesting views on assisted suicide.
Just saying...
And yes, Tails is a freaky little guy at times. His plane is full of guns, and has taken to lobbing bombs now a days. He really is a little Eggman in training.
