What I mean is...are any of you helping out in raising food and toys for the homeless and the needy?
At my school, each homeroom class is assigned a family that we can bring in food and toys for.
Actually, I was reading some of the Q&B comics and I finished reading the Hurricane Katrina one, and I was reminded of the food and toy drive (thank you, Quacker!!!).
So I went to see my mom and I asked her if we had anything to give. I told her about the family, a single mom and her two children (a four year old son and a two year old girl) and I also said the prize is a Tim Horton's breakfast. (Tim Horton's is a famous Canadian donut shop.) I mentioned I don't care for the prize, I just wanted to give the kids and the mom a better Christmas.
Mom went hunting through our storage and dug up the following:
Tickle Me Elmo (surprisingly, it works perfectly) A huge Christmas teddy bear
She also wants to donate her hardly used, almost new massager for the mom. (I need to find out if it's okay. They only mentioned the kids, not parents.)
I went digging through my stuff, but since I had cleaned out my room in the summer and already gave up some stuff, I only found the following:
Two small stuffies (a tiny white bear and a tiny dalmatian) A Scooby Doo plushie I won during the summer
My mom's going shopping tomorrow, for groceries, and she's going to buy some extra things for the family.
So let's swap stories! Are you helping a needy this Christmas?

I think that's a really cool idea, getting assigned a family like that. It makes the giving process seem a bit more personal. At my school our Latin club is doing a canned food drive, so I'll probably bring in a few cans of fruit and some soup. Some kids bring in old, borderline expired stuff , but I try to never donate something I wouldn't be willing to use or eat myself.

Yeah, same here.
I mean, that's just heartless and cold. At my school, we have the bad habit of forgetting about it. I only remembered because the Hurricane Katrina comic Quacker's got also was a cry for help during that time.
I feel pathetic. <________< But at least now I have some presents for some cute little kids. ^.^

When I was younger, I would save up money all year long in a Santa bank, and then donate the money at Christmas to a charity. This year I feel a bit negligent, but that's mainly because money is a bit tight. Still, I'm going to give the homeless man that lives near my parents' place (he's by the bus stop rain* or shine) some of my gently used warm cloths.
Also, I have this thing about always donated a few bucks when I go by an Animal Rescue foundation. I love animals, and if I can't adopt them all, it's the least I can do.
*Not that it rains often in Pasadena, California.

Me and one other girl are the only ones who brought things in!
I brought in two bags filled with food and toys and put them in a basket. I feel so infuriated, because no one else is bringing anything in. One of the guys even gave five bucks to the girl who's our homeroom rep for the drive, and I haven't seen anything from her yet. (And she said, "Give me money and I'll go out and buy things for the basket." (Basket meaning the thing we put the donated items in.)
ARGH! >.<
