Well, faker does have one point I can whole heartedly agree with - there aren't enought new ideas coming out with a change of hero. If you look at the All Star mode in Brawl, it's arranged according to their release onto the world. Pokemon (the second from last collection) came out in 1996. Pikmin (the last character you face) came out in 2001. That's five years before anything new was released. All the other games have at most, two years seperating each new character or series. I know it doesn't take in the other characters that weren't included in Brawl, but even so it says something about the rooster for the game at least.
But Weirdo is right too. Most series do stick to one game per console, unless they of course own the console. Which is why we should be seeing far more new series then we currently have. I can say that I'm guilty of browsing the gaming shelves, trying to judge a game I haven't heard of from the boxart and usual self promoting stuff written on the back. It's annoying because it feels so hit and miss (which is why I've turned against gaming mags lately since they always go after the obvious reviews).
I've also got to agree on the point that each game is meant to be an improvement of the last - look at Sonic and the Black Knight. SatSR is the prequel if you will and the developers have achknowledged that the game is flawed. Which is why the Black Knight will be an improvement upon that, since they've tuned up the gameplay and added extra elements in. It shows that the gamers opinions (or the mags, depending on who you want to think the programmers are more likely to hear or listen to) do count towards something.
But that doesn't stop me from wanting some new series. Nothing seems to be able to shake the market as wholesomely as Sonic did when he first came out, or even Pokemon. If they have an animal like Sonic, they tend to be aimed at children as platformers and little seesm able to break free of being linked to a longer-running and really sucessful series.

I'd just like to point out real quick that the five year gap only counts on the lines of the series that they've actually included into brawl...Nintendo does make a lot more then just that, so ya know.
Also...I wasn't too much of an not a very nice person about this, was I?...Fakers seems to have disappeared again and now I feel kinda bad about it...>.>...

I guess debates always get a bit heated. I imagine she'll return soon =) She wouldn't let a little thing like this put her off coming here XD
And yeah, I did say it was more reflective of the Brawl rooster...or at least I thought I did...oh well *shrugs*

Every series usually maintains a one game per console run. Saying that only Zelda and Metroid aren't dead is simply ignorant. While they hold the most popularity as of late, the others are anything but dead. As mentioned before, Kirby's had a release only a month ago...did he somehow manage to find his way into the grave in that one month? You've also royally contradicted yourself with the complaints of Olimar being in Brawl. His play style is fully unique and you bash him just for that? He's certainly better then the average fighting game character in my opinion simply because he's an unexpected combatant. Not everyone wants to play as some muscular master of hand to hand combat or a lone swordsman with a blade twice the size of his head. And I should mention that they're only creating SOME games for the older audience. They're a big enough company to doubletask like so, and you're still seeing many many games aimed for the gamer audience. (Such as Galaxy, which you just mentioned...) In complaining about the handful of games they made that weren't for an audience such as yourself, you seem to have missed the bushel which are. One last thing...isn't it a point to improve on old systems as well? As great as innovation is, the kinks are never worked out the first time around. The art of trying to perfect gaming formulas is an important one as well, considering many people tend to become quite attached to some of the new concepts that come out and would like to see the details done right. Ok here goes.... Kirby games come VERY few and far between, which also in turn makes them "rare" after they come out because the market is so damn small no one but Kirby fans bother buying it. Take Kirby Canvas Curse... it was fun, yeah. It was the first Kirby game I had played since I was maybe 7 or 8 years old. Just because Kirby came out of the wood work 3 times in the last 10 years doesnt mean the series isnt dead, just as whoring out a series a million times over doesnt mean its dead. Also, haha, I wasnt bashing "Olimar" or his style of fighting, therefore I have NOT contradicted myself. I merely said, out of all my friends, ONE person gave a crap that he was in the game. I dont play as him, ever, so therefore I couldnt say whether or not he's completely useless to the game. As far as him being an unexpected combatant? In terms of fighting games that has absolutely nothing to do with it. A good gamer can take any character and kick ass, whether or not he's a prototypical "big muscled/sword-wielding fighter or some n00b like a Servbot. Also, as for Nintendo... ok so they made a new company. So what? People do that all the time, or in some cases, outsource to another company which is WAY cheaper. Nintendo had absolutely nothing to offer to the press at their most recent press conference other than the aforementioned games aimed at an older audience, leading people to wonder what the hell was going on. Surely, knowing the way Nintendo is, they have something big up their sleeve they don't want leaking, but chances are we wont see it for a while. As for improving on an older system, yeah it IS important to do so. Nintendo made a huge decision that ended up working in their favor this time. That was to ditch the useless addition of a DVD player, and instead on concentrating on a ridiculously powerful system, work on something innovative such as the Wiimote and Nunchuk business. Luckily it has kept their heads way above water. Unfortunately for Nintendo, seeing as how they like to brag about how many units they sold, think about this.... Let's say the Wii is $200, and a PS3 is $400.... even if Nintendo sold one million units..... Sony would only have to sell half a million to equal in sales. And numbers may be bigger and what have you, but that doesnt change the fact that Sony and Microsoft have more money than god starting off with anyway and eventually, through marketing and learning from Nintendo's mistakes, will continue to obliterate the gaming market. I mean, look at Sony, they already have a SixAxis controller not even 6 months after Nintendo announced their motion sensitive remote! People like to think Nintendo led to the downfall of Sega, but in reality it was Sony that kicked their asses. As much as I like Nintendo, I really REALLY wish they'd just stop with the hardware market and concentrate on software (I also wish the same for Apple, because god knows their crap is way too expensive anyway).

People have been hating on Sonic FOREVER now. My friends insult me for my Sonic love constantly. Sales say that Sonic's not going anywhere. Why complain cause people are haters?

I really think all this stuff is BS too. If they dare go near sonic I'll march over to America (or Japan) and kill SEGA myself! I don't even think sonic has gotten crappy over the years! To me he'll always be the cool funny blue hedgehog he was when I first started watching the shows and playing the games! I AGREE WITH YOU 100% THAT SONIC AND HIS FRIENDS SHOULD LIVE ON FOREVER! AND MAY TAILS DOLL TOSS ME OFF A CLIFF IF I'M WRONG!

Yes, this thread is relly old, but...
On the topic of reviews for games, I f*cking hate X-play. They gave Wheelman (cross between GTA and Burnout) a 3/5, for one little thing.
WTF?! Since when have enemies in any game? Wheelman has excellent gunfights, extremely awesome car chases, magnificent graphics, and a good plotline! And yes, the enemies do have to follow the same physics.
And the y gave GTA Chinatown a 5/5 for having terrible graphics, a totally un-original plotline, and action which is pure bullsh*t!

I agree... I may occasionally crack jokes about Sonic 06 and Heroes being horrible games, but thats just it! I Still love both games, and i joke about them simply for the fact that i haven't really played either in a long time...(I sold heroes, and i lost Sonic 06's disk...and i swear Ray, if you say what i think you're gonna say, by god, i will have Big anally rape you with barbed wire, and a cactus) As for Olimar? He's the only character in Brawl that's not cheap that i'm actually GOOD with! Though, i don't have online, so i can't really say anything about my skill if i'm only fighting lvl 9s all the time, can I? And as for WarioWare? WarioWare wasn't meant to be a game you'd want to have a challange with. It requires quick reflexes, seeing as how, in the Gamecube's release for warioware, every time you went up a "level", the timer started going faster, and you're only told what to do for like, half a second, then it just goes away. and as for Nintendo selling out to Sega(or either way it was) it was simply because the masses wanted to see Sonic back in action again, and Nintendo delivered that. Why should the fans be so butthurt about it? Honestly, i haven't heard anything bad about Sonic Unleashed, other than the usual "wtf is this?! I wanted a simple side scrolling thing like the old days!" In which, if they had read the back of the box instead of buying it just for the simple fact that it was a new sonic game, they would've saved precious dollars, and they wouldn't be able to complain... Besides! I remember a game for the...Genesis i think. It was my favorite game on it...Sonic 3D Blast. (Favorite on Saturn pending on either Sonic the Fighters, or Sonic R) It brought a new feel to the sonic series, and the fans DIDN'T complain about it...i didn't expect them to, seeing as how it had the same 3D engine as Mario RPG! And I need to say this...while Sonic might not be the 'best' character in the series to most people, SEGA already covered that in Sonic 06! (he got speared through the chest...made me laugh ) I think SEGA did that just for the fans though... eh...too tired to write any more...i gotz that fanfiction contest to workz on

Sega Fan, seriously, shove off you console fanboy. We're not interested in your opinion, get it? Frankly, I own a Wii, a 360, a PSP, a PS2, and I often play my mother's DS. And you know what? I love them all. We buy used systems or systems on sale and if you save your money you'd be surprised how easily sour grapes syndrom is avoided. Now quit trying to start flamewars. [/so not in the mood for a console humping twat]
