Ok so... I'm not huge into politics, but when I am I tend to fall under the moderate republican category. (I basically agree with everything listed here: moderaterepublican.net/id1.html , to those who do not know the difference in political scale).
Naturally I wasnt too happy with either candidates... McCain seemed too conservative for my tastes, his VP candidate was a little too out of touch. Obama was on the other hand way too liberal for me, and his VP wasnt nearly as charismatic or even engaging when he spoke.
So, Obama's already won the Presidency and all, and was sworn in and all that good stuff. So, let's take a look at all this "change" nonsense he kept spouting.
He's basically rehired all the people from Clinton's administration. Not much of a change there, unless of course he just meant "change from the Bush administration in general". So I doubt theyre going to be doing anything useful or different from last time. Clinton's administration was terribly good at playing the polls, which is why they are seen in a somewhat positive light years later (others feel they didnt accomplish squat, but thats besides the point and not what im here to gripe about). Ok so... in my opinion? No change there, really. But hey, maybe Obama will give them a boot to the ass and get some things done.
Next annoyance... lets see.... oh yeah. The War in Iraq. Ok so, the whole time he kept talking about ending it and yada yada like all the other Democrats playing to people's emotions. Now, not even a month from being sworn in, he wants to send some 15,000+ MORE soldiers into Iraq. Now, you can argue this all you want, because the Conservatives did this to the democrats once before as well, so I recognize what is going on here.
I feel as though the Democrats were just telling people what they wanted to hear (just like last time when they all wanted the majority in government), and instead of leaving there as promised, they're gonna try and win it as quickly as possible to recieve the credit for "defeating terrorism" and become the heroes. Forget the fact that the Conservatives started it and have done quite a bit of work-- it wont matter because people arent going to remember that. So yeah thats another annoyance I have. Broken promises for the sake of getting a pat on the back by History.
Something tells me about 90% of the things Obama kept promising are going to be completely forgotten from memory, just like every other politician in this country. Not much "change" there as far as I'm concerned. Granted its been a VERY short period of time and he has 4 years to work it out... but looking back on history I'm pretty sure he's gonna go the way of everyone else before him.
To end this on a better note, because there are some good things I see in Obama: He's one of few presidents in our history that came from nothing (he was living on the streets for a while, as opposed to Bush who is related to 14(?moreorless?) previous presidents and also John Kerry, believe it or not), and therefore doesnt have the same elitist attitude about everything. Like last week he changed the dress code to be more relaxed, and then he capped the pay of people who clearly dont deserve ridiculous amounts of money for menial jobs. I say he's definitely got the personality we need to improve the USA's image.
