... Of buying the PS2 version of Sonic Unleashed? I saw the E3 preview of the game on Youtube(shocker!) and, being one of the many people too cheap to own an Xbox 360, I went out and got the PS2 version thinking it would be pretty much the same... XD Something I overlooked was the lack of vastness in the PS2's memory, soo I ended up with a hole in my pocket and a dumbfounded look upon my face... As well as a couple of holes in the drywall of my room. XD
Anyone else? Discuss.

I haven't yet gotten a copy of Unleashed. I was to much a sucker for Black Knight. xP By the time I had enough money to get a Wii game, Black Knight was already out and I kinda couldn't resist.

Didn't buy Unleashed or Black Night. Something in my "Sonic Intution" gut said, "I can be so much better than the game Sega put me in and for crap's sake, quit turning me into stuff! Do something with Knuckles or Tails. Give me my freedom to run obsessively and kick butt like it's nobody's business, and people will line your pockets with sweet moolah."
My gut hasn't been wrong yet, but the music in Unleashed is pure awesome and the Day stages have me actually trying to catch my breath after the Youtube video ends. BTW, anyone see the Sega movie, "Night of the Werehog?"

As impartial as I'm supposed to be, right now I just want to say...
I want to punch you in that gut of yours you keep talking about.

Not to jump on your opinion here, but it seems a little biased being that you haven't even played them.
Youtube Video=/=Playing the game.
Black Knight kept very well to the Sonic feel of 'go really fast and destroy things'. It has a hint of memorization in some of the levels which gave it a feel of the old game without overdoing it. As far as I've found out, no real quick time events. While earlier bosses were easy, they progressed in difficulty until I got my butt kicked because I'm honestly not that great with Sonic games. Even sucking out loud, I still had fun.
If this is about the sword, I don't see why that would be such a big deal. Heaven above forbid a series try something new. The problem is that what I see in your gut is saying to me is that 'I don't want anything new, I just want the same game over and over again'.
Story wise. Yes, it's Author retold. But they add twists and turns in it that make it, despite being based on the tales of the round table, something different from its source. While they took up the name sake, really these aren't even the knights of King Author in this story. King Author as well as Merlin in the game's tale you can assume is dead just by who is the granddaughter of who. Now I'm not saying anymore because I don't want to spoil the surprise for those who don't know the happy twist.
It's true, Sega is doing everything possible to try and get money out of their character. They're milking him by coming up with every feasible idea that they could make into a Sonic game. But you know something, good game or bad game, what are all the other companies doing? Giving out their games? None of them really care about their characters. Every company is out for money in the end. You can't ask SEGA to chance their game plan from every other company just because you think they're on the bad game train.
As far as Unleashed, I can't call anything yet because I haven't gotten to play it yet. I mean, from what I've seen so far, its another one on my 'get soon' list along with Still Life 2.
But this is one thing I think I can have an opinion on. The werehog. I know has been some controversy as far as whether this critter fits into the story. I'm putting all gameplay aspects aside. Many fans scream it doesn't. So, talking animals, robots powered by woodland creatures, two tailed foxes, an echidna that can glide using only his dreadlocks, a giant blob of a water god, ghosts, magical gems of ultimate power, hedgehogs wielding giant hammers of death, pyrokinetic felines, teleporting gold rings, apocalyptic bringing ultimate lifeforms, space and time binding for teleportation, and magic spears made of pure energy are just fine. But a bad side effect from an experiment by Eggman is just going too far? (I believe that's what it was. Someone with the game confirm this please?) Uh, I'm sorry, I miss the logic there.
But, I can't really call much more opinion then the werehog right now. Heck, I don't even know the story well enough to say what I think so I'm not going there.
Okay, enjoy the two cents on my opinion and this got way longer then I wanted it to because it seemed I had a lot more to say then I thought I did. Wall-o-text go.

I have nothing against Sega trying something new with Sonic games. I love the new ideas. It shows that creativity isn't dead yet. It's just that even though Sonic is supposed to be the all-time hero here, I'd love to see some of the other characters get some decent spotlight.
I actually liked the Werehog idea but I guess it was something about it that turned me off... ah, screw it. I don't know what I'm trying to say. I didn't even have the money to buy thse games. Punch me all you want. Guess I deserve it.

Seriously, don't get the PS2 version. XD But a bad side effect from an experiment by Eggman is just going too far? (I believe that's what it was. Someone with the game confirm this please?) Basically, yes. Luckily, the first cutscene is the one thing that didn't change with the console, so I know this one. XD Eggman actually kind of lured him into a trap and Sonic was being all cocky like he'll do. So, Eggman pulls a switch on a control panel, like -he'll- do, and machine-generated purple lightning, claws, lots of fur, fangs... Sonic is fired from a cannon into the Earth and he lands on a weird flying rabbit pixie... Loads of bad storytelling. XD

From what I remember, the Wii version is the same way with removed levels, no overworld, and a much shorter Eggmanland. People keep telling me the latter one is a good thing, though the part of me that enjoys I Wanna be the Guy disagrees.
Either way, I'm planning to rent the 360 version as soon as I get a chance.

Quacker actually bought the PS3 version of Unleashed first. After spending two whole nights trying to get through Eggmanland (and all the internet saying he was a jackass for not finding it easy), we "returned" it to GameStop (by which I mean we got arse-raped by them financially) and bought the Wii version. He's much happier with the Wii version. I think he liked Black Knight for the Wii... certainly made enough noise for the segments

I've got Sonic Unleashed...and to tell the truth, it's actually a lot like Akago compared SATBK to the older games...not to mention some of the levels are actually puzzles.
And it actually has an EXP system...you can make sonic's speed boosts faster, and his claw slashes stronger, and stuff like that.
